ACTION AHEAD!
Learn about the action card system used in combat situations.
YOUR HAND AND THE CARD PILES
Your hand consists of regular actions, actions granted by equipment and special actions.
At the beginning of combat, add all regular and equipment cards available to your hand. Then, draw as many special actions as your card count allows from the special pile. This is the maximum amount of special actions you can have at one time.
The rest of your special cards is put on the special pile, from which you will draw additional actions as the fight progresses.
When you've played one or more special actions, you can decide to play the regular action "refresh special" in the next round and draw again, up to your max card count.
For example, your card count is 3, and you have played two special actions this turn. Next turn, play "refresh special" and draw two additional special actions next to your remaining one. These actions can be used immediately.
No more cards in the special pile? Then you have obviously used all your available special actions for this fight. The character will need to REST after the fight to refresh the special pile from the dicard pile!
WHAT ARE ACTION CARDS?
Action Cards are deployable cards, that can trigger manouvers and events in combat situations. They have various bonusses and add unique items to the character in game. I am also planning to add a standaloe card game with these action cards, but this is for when the main project is finished.
A base set of Action Cards comes with the core game, but fans of Machina Obscura will also be able to buy booster packs, consisting of many additions to the core cards, to their own collection. Since some cards are rarer then others, you can fulfill your collection instinct! :) There will be limited editions as well as booster packs on a special topic (i.e. "Pirates of the Sand Dunes" with fitting cards and items).
There are three types of Action Cards - regular, equipment and special cards.
Regular
Actions that you can use every round. These include movement, attack, defend and the like.
Equipment
Actions that come from an item in your posession. These include potions, special maneuvers granted by the item, and special attacks from weapons. Some of these actions can only be used one single time in a combat situation.
Special
Actions like these are earned as a reward for quests or bought with a booster pack. Most of these actions can only be used one single time in a combat situation.
